Pacquiao Plans to Donate $USD50 million to Charity

Heavyweight Boxer and Filipino politician, Manny Pacquiao 36, on Thursday said he fought against Floyd Mayweather for his fans and not necessarily for the money. Even though he lost the much hyped “fight of the century”, Pacquiao is entitled to well over US$100 million of which he plans to donate half to charity. The Philippine Inquirer called the boxer and two-term congressman the “biggest one-man charity” in the Philippines.
In an interview with CNBC, “I’m not really looking for the money… money is secondary. Of course, we have to earn money for the fight … I say yes because the fans are very eager to see this fight.” Boxing great Sugar Ray Leonard however warned Pacquiao not to be too generous with the money. But it is unlikely Pacquiao will heed this advice.
