Petrol shortage will end when FG pays N200bn – Marketers

Oil marketers in Nigeria have said that the fuel scarcity being experienced in the country will continue until the Federal Government pays the remaining N200 billion subsidy debt it owes them.
The marketers also said that fuel is coming into the country but it’s not adequate enough to meet demand.
This was disclosed on Friday, May 15, 2015, by the Executive Secretary of the Major Oil Marketers Association (MOMAN), Obafemi Olawore.
“It is not that we are not bringing in fuel. The problem is that we are not bringing enough and the reason we are not bringing enough is simple. If you pay 154 [billion Naira] out of out of 354 [billion Naira] you are left with 200 [billion Naira]. That is not up to 50 per cent,” Olawore said.
“What we are saying is that we should make attempt to pay. Banks should agree to open their lines of credit so that we can access funds and bring in more products while the government talks to us. As we speak, nobody is talking, so we do not know the thinking of anybody. There is no crime in asking for the money. They are owing us some money and we want the money,” he added.
The government had earlier paid the marketers N156 billion as part of the subsidy debt owed.

Senator-elect Dino Melaye calls President Jonathan a ‘promoter of corruption.’

Senator-elect, Dino Melaye, has said that President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration is the most corrupt in Nigeria’s history.

Melaye, a former House of Representatives member, also called Jonathan a ‘promoter of corruption.’
The Senator-elect made the comments during an interview with Premium Times.
“Jonathan is the promoter of corruption. I am telling you that the Government of Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan is the most corrupt in Nigerian history but (who) we have as president-elect of this country today (Muhammadu Buhari); the man I see as the nemesis of corruption,” Melaye said.
“Change! I am an advocate of anti-corruption and for me if I enter office, I am going to do it more this time around. More importantly, now that we have a government that is going to have zero tolerance for corruption, we must as legislators carry out our functions from any form of sacrifice,” he added.
“Either at the national assembly, we will be drastically checked. Legislators need to check if they are on the side of the people or side of their pockets. They must be content because you have to live a life of sacrifice,” Melaye said.
“If we supervise the MDAs, N3billion will not be budgeted for the travels of Mr. President in a year. Where is the president going? Is he the supervisor of the world?” the Senator-elect asked.
Jonathan will hand over to President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari on Friday, May 29, 2015.

The BeyHive and Rihanna Navy come for Ciara on instagram

Beyonce and Rihanna's fans joined forces to attack Ciara after she said in an interview with The Guardian that the two singers are not her competition. Below is the article from The Guardian...
"Despite her success – 2010’s Basic Instinct is the only one of her albums not to reach the US top5 – she's never become a household name like Rihanna or Beyoncé.
“You know what I think?” she asks, rhetorically. “Everything’s about timing. I’ve had records just as big as those artists, I’ve had No 1 songs around the world. My biggest competition is me.” That and her old label, perhaps. After Basic Instinct only reached No 44, she left LaFace/Jive, announcing on Facebook that they had not supported her enough. Her next album, Ciara, released on Epic, duly went to No 2. “There’s no doubt in my mind how high up this train can go,” she says calmly. “I faced those challenges. I don’t see myself beneath Beyoncé and Jay Z; I don’t see myself above them. I’m in my own world, hungry to grow.”
After this segment of the interview circulated online, Ciara's Instagram page simultaneously erupted into swarms of bees and hundreds of anchors. See pictures below;

Obasanjo Presents Strategic Development Plan To Buhari

IN WHAT appears as a tacit support for the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, on Thursday May 14, 2015 handed over to the in-coming leader a report containing strategies to solve the country’s major problems.
The reports contained templates that would assist the incoming government to rapidly achieve its objectives of taking the nation a notch higher.Top on the list were Education, Power Sector,Economy, Security and Infrastructure. The development followed a research work embarked upon by the Centre for Human Security of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library on major social challenges facing Nigeria four months ago.The event, which took place at the Buhari Support Organisation (BSO’s) office in Abuja, featured the Chairman, Governing Board of the Centre for Human Security of Obasanjo Presidential Library, Professor Akin Mabogunje, who was incidentally the chairman of the committee; former Minister of finance and Committees Vice Chairman, Dr. Kalu Idika Kalu, who presented volumes of the report to Buhari and Dr. Christopher Kolade, who headed the Power Committee.
Speaking to newsmen at the end of the ceremony that was held behind closed-doors, Mabogunje said the report contained policy documents that would help the president-elect restructure Nigeria, revealing that Buhari was full of thanks for the documents.
He said: “Centre for Human Security of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library has being working on a number of critical issues for the development of this country and they have now sent a delegation of those who’ve been involved with the preparation of those policy documents to talk to the president-elect and get him to appreciate what is being done to help his administration. That’s why we are here.
“We’ve looked at education, security, economy, power and Infrastructure. Those are the areas we’ve made recommendations and which we hope the new administration will be able to work on.
“He (Buhari) was very happy that we’ve been thinking about how to help him hit the ground running and he expressed his appreciation for what we’ve been doing.”
Giving details of the reports, Dr. Kolade explained the long, medium and short terms goals of the report.
According to him, the strategic plan hoped to raise the country’s power generation to 10,000 MW within a short period of time.
Expanding thoughts on the development also, the Buhari’s media spokesperson, Mallam Garba Shehu, said “the whole idea was that Obasanjo set up his own think- tank with the aim of carrying out a study on challenges facing the country in five key areas of Education, Power Sector, Economy, Security and Infrastructure.
“The study was commissioned four months ago so that the outcome will be made available to the incoming administration after the election.”
He also stated that the president-elect expressed gratitude to Obasanjo for their kind gesture, however, regretting that the outgoing regime of president Goodluck Jonathan had not done anything close to that.
Receiving the report, Buhari expressed gratitude to Obasanjo and his team, describing their intervention as a great impetus for the incoming government.
Buhari regretted that the out-going government that is supposed to give him tips on how to take-off has done nothing so far.
He thanked the Obasanjo for their gesture, assuring them that his incoming administration will be needing their advice as time goes on
Ahmed Joda, Chairman of Buhari Transition Committee refused to speak in his capacity as the transition committee chairman when asked by Journalists to make input.
“I am here not in the capacity of the chairman of the transition committee. I am here because I am a chairman of one of the committees of the centre that consider security issues at the Obasanjo centre for human security”, he said

Gov forum’s crisis paved the way for PDP defeat–Tinubu, Soyinka

The National Leader of the All Progressives
Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and Nobel
laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, on Thursday in
Lagos said the 2013 Nigeria Governors’ Forum
crisis paved the way for the end of the 16-year
rule of the Peoples Democratic Party.
They made the observation during the public
presentation of ‘Dynamics of Change: The
Amaechi Years,’ a book edited by a former
Managing Director of Daily Times, Yemi Ogunbiyi,
and author, Chidi Amuta.
They explained that the crisis provided the spark
that led to a common sense revolution as
witnessed in the defeat of the PDP by the All
Progressives Congress.
The NGF crisis erupted from an election organised
by the 36 governors of the federation. Governor
Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State garnered 19 votes
while his Plateau State counterpart, Jonah Jang,
had 16 votes.
However, the Presidency chose to recognise Jang
as the chairman, thereby causing a split in the
forum and the defection of five governors from
the PDP to the APC.
Tinubu, in comments at the event, said when the
split happened, he quickly wooed Amaechi.
He described the Rivers State governor as the
general that the APC used to secure victory
during the just concluded general elections.
Tinubu said the APC played on President
Goodluck Jonathan’s lack of understanding of
Arithmetic to defeat him.
He said, “Governor Amaechi and most of the
governors thought of a different arithmetic
algebra without derivative. Thirty six minus 16 is
equal to X and if X is greater than 16, suggest the
answer and if you can’t, you have failed
democratic arithmetic.
“Amaechi resisted it and we joined him in the
resistance. Of course, how can a leader educate
and be responsible for the future of our citizens if
he cannot do a division of sum total of a number,
36? We are glad today that we decided and we
got rid of that leadership through ‘General’
Amaechi.”
Tinubu stated that his message of a common
sense revolution gripped Nigeria and opened their
eyes.
He said for instance, the Civic Centre on Victoria
Island used to be a dumpsite but the state
government sold it to the Chairman of Zenith
Bank, Jim Ovia, who turned it into a revenue-
spinning machine that now pays tax to the state.
The APC leader said it was the same method that
the APC would use in redefining the history of
Nigeria.
He said, “We are in this hall because of its good
construction. The hall is part of a common sense
revolution. It used to be a dumpsite but we asked
our friend, Jim Ovia, to excavate it and pay
whatever price to the government. He took the
risk and it is paying off. It is part of the common
sense revolution.’’
The former governor also enjoined all APC
stakeholders and other Nigerians to brace for the
post-election challenges.
He said, “Elections are over and both the leaders
and citizens must brace themselves to meet the
challenges required to build a better, more
prosperous nation. Indeed, even as we subscribe
to the tenets of common sense revolution, we
must retool ourselves; the new leadership must
embark on policies that will improve the general
well-being of our people.
“This revolution is not a violent one to tear things
down; it is a revolution to rescue us from
violence, injustice and poverty. It is a positive one
to rescue, repair and restructure the nation and
its institutions in ways that further collective
prosperity and well-being. The only violence that
is to be done is to violence, injustice and
poverty.”
Tinubu said Amaechi, who was the director-
general of the APC Campaign Organisation, would
be given a key position in the incoming Buhari
administration for his role in the party’s victory.
He said what Amaechi and his colleagues in the
NGF wanted was a better management of the
Federation Account .
The former governor said, “Governor Amaechi and
most of the governors want a properly defined
federalist relationship with the government at the
centre. The President would have none of that as
in the notable example of the management of the
federation account. This is, therefore, another
great opportunity to salute Amaechi’s rare
courage of conviction and sense of purpose.
“The APC change agenda is anchored on the three
Rs – Reform, Relief, and Recovery. It is the tripod
upon which Nigeria must operate in order to
unleash her potential.
“Rotimi will go on from here to continue to serve
Nigeria in key positions. He will not be alone. He
will share the company of many change agents
and professionals who have cast their lots with
the new political order under the leadership of the
President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari.”
Like Tinubu, Soyinka pointed out that the NGF
crisis marked the beginning of the end of the
Jonathan administration.
Soyinka said one of his close friends in Aso Rock
had urged him to talk to Amaechi to stop
attacking the Presidency as his party(APC) would
not succeed in defeating Jonathan.
The playwright, who is a notable critic of
Jonathan, said the two architects of the APC
victory were Tinubu and Amaechi.
He said, “In the political atmosphere today,
whatever you call it, change or hope or cautious
hope and or careless hope, I recognise two
personalities in particular who led the chant of
change. One of them, I call him the architect of
the process, the architect in fact, that houses the
essence of hope Bola Tinubu.
“The other person (Amaechi) was unconsciously,
perhaps, the arrowhead of that charge that led to
the change and that is the man that we gather
here to celebrate.
“He was the one who said no, we cannot turn the
clock backwards. Nothing about the philosophy of
the clock runs against what we were hoping for.
It was a very unpopular and risky decision to
take. But it exposed to us the basic arithmetic
fallacy of governance in demonstrating that when
16 is said to be higher than 19, something is
fundamentally wrong and the same kind of
arithmetic leads to the cooking of figures in
governance.
“And it was within that nexus that he stood up
and challenged even his own colleagues, and said
let’s change the mentality of the stock, let us re-
orientate it towards the people and towards the
nation and the electorate.”
In his remarks, Amaechi said he and Tinubu had
disagreements during the electioneering but were
able to put their differences aside in the interest
of the party.
He said Jonathan destroyed the governors’ forum
but expressed joy that with the APC victory,
things would return to normal.
He said, “I was determined that there should be a
change because if there’s no change, things will
not move. Even before our convention, I got
Asiwaju Tinubu angry. I went to him and implored
that we should not fight or disagree over issues.
“I told him that the important thing was for us to
win first and after which, we can disagree. I
believe that we must win and make a change. I
am ready to make a sacrifice.

Jonathan Has Not Given Me Any Useful Tips ToRun The Government - Buhari

President-elect Muhammadu Buhari has accused
the outgoing Goodluck Jonathan government of
not giving him “tips” on how to kick-start his
administration on May 29.
He spoke on Thursday when a committee from
the Centre for Human Security of the Olusegun
Obasanjo Presidential Library, presented a five-
point policy document to him at the Buhari
Support Organisation office in Abuja.
Hours before the event which held behind closed
doors, the All Progressives Congress, insisted that
the Federal Government was not cooperating with
the transition committee set up by the President-
elect.
“Buhari regretted that the outgoing government
that is supposed to give him tips on how to take
off has done nothing so far,” Garba Shehu, the
Director of Media and Publicity of
the All Progressives Congress Presidential
Campaign Organisation, told journalists after the
presentation by the committee.
According to PUNCH, Shehu added that the
President-elect “thanked the Obasanjo initiative
for the gesture, assuring the committee that his
incoming administration will be needing advice as
time goes on.”
Areas covered by committee in the document
include the economy, security, power, education
and infrastructure.
He said that Obasanjo had set up a think tank to
carry out a study on the challenges facing the
country in the five key areas. The study, he
added, was started four months ago “so that the
outcome will be made available to the incoming
administration after the election.”
He also revealed that Nigeria’s former High
Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Dr.
Christopher Kolade, who headed the power
committee, gave various stages of the proposed
power sector development plan to include short-
term, medium-term, long-term solutions.
Under the short-term solution, the plan seeks to
raise the country’s power generation to 10,000
MW within a very short period of time.
He added that the president-elect described the
intervention of Obasanjo and his team as a great
impetus for the incoming government.
The vice-chairman of the committee, who is a
former Minister of Finance, Kalu Idika Kalu, said,
“We have looked at education, security, economy,
power and Infrastructure. Those are the areas we
have made recommendations and which we hope
the new administration would be able to work
on.”
He further explained that the president-elect was
very happy that they had been thinking about
how to help him hit the ground running.
The Chairman of the centre’s governing board,
Akin Mabogunje. who also spoke to journalists
after the event, said the committee had been
working on a number of critical issues for the
development of the country.
According to him, a delegation of the committee
members involved in the preparation of the policy
document was sent to present the report to the
President-elect.
Earlier on Thursday , the APC described as untrue,
a statement credited to the spokesman for the
Peoples Democratic Party, Oliseh Metuh, that the
Jonathan administration was cooperating with the
transition committee constituted by the President-
elect.
It also described Metuh in a statement signed by
its National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed,
as a man with “an incurable disdain for truth.”
The PDP spokesman had in the said statement
accused the APC of raising a false alarm over
happenings within the Jonathan and the Buhari
transition committees.
However, Mohammed insisted that the
uncooperative attitude of the Jonathan team had
continued despite its public posturing.
The APC statement Read,
“We say with all sense of responsibility that as of
today, May 14, 2015, just about two weeks to the
May 29 handover date, no shred of information
as to the status of governance from any ministry,
department or agency of government has been
given to our transition committee.
If that qualifies, in Metuh’s lexicon, as
cooperation, then there is a problem somewhere.
We dare Metuh or anyone for that matter, to
controvert the fact that not a line of handover
note has been handed over to our transition
committee.”
The APC also restated its earlier call to Metuh to
urgently undertake a course on how to be an
opposition party spokesman so that he would not
talk or write himself into avoidable troubles in the
days ahead.
It equally admonished him to always verify
information available to him in order to separate
rumours from facts.
The statement further read,:
“Metuh decided to put his foot in his mouth when
he latched on to the statement made by our
Transition Committee Chairman, forgetting that in
making his statement, the chairman was only
advising him against anything that would put the
Federal Government in a bad light.
A discerning party spokesman, rather than a
rabble-rousing one, would have understood the
elder statesman’s stand for what it is instead of
using it as a peg to issue a needless, hollow
statement that puts his party and government in
a bad light.”
The APC said it had decided to allow bygones be
bygones, but now that Metuh had stirred the
hornet’s nest, it was time to put out the facts for
Nigerians to judge. It added;
“What happened was that, following the request
by our transition committee to meet with them,
they invited us to what was the first formal
meeting between both transition committees. But
the meeting was a mere photo-op, as it yielded
nothing concrete as far as handover notes are
concerned.
In fact, what we met at the so-called meeting
was far worse than what we had thought.
Whereas we had hoped to get their handover
notes on May 14th (the date they had indicated
to us informally), they told us point blank that
the notes won’t be ready until May 24th.
Because this date falls on a Sunday that means
we won’t be getting the handover notes until May
25th, just four days before the May 29th
handover date.
How do they honestly expect us to peruse
thousands of pages of handover notes, ask
pertinent questions and seek necessary
clarifications within four days? Because we want
a smooth transition, we asked if we could meet
with some of the ministers pending the release of
the handover notes, but they said no.
When one of their members even suggested that
the whole process be fast-tracked, they did not
budge.
Despite this setback, we decided not to put the
whole issue in the public domain, until the
babbling Metuh decided to look for trouble,
describing the deliberate stonewalling by the
Jonathan Administration as cooperation.”

This Is The Story Of How An NYSC Member Almost Lost His Life To Military Torture At Camp

Bunmi Adeyera, a Corps member in Nasarawa
state orientation camp, yesterday almost lost his
life at the camp after being severely maltreated
by security operatives.
According to an eye witness who pleaded
anonymity, “Bunmi is sick and today locked-up in
the guard room for hours until he collapsed and
became unconscious in the Guard room”.
Naij put a call through to Bunmi Adeyera who
confirmed the incident.
Read excerpts below:
Quote
“To all my fellow NYSC corp members around
Nigeria, today, I witnessed how one of my
colleagues, Adeyera Olubunmi (State code:
NS/15A/0134)(Call-up no.: NYSC/
NIJ/2015/061287) almost died due to
maltreatment in Nasarawa state NYSC camp by
security officials.
What happened this morning was that Bunmi
Adeyera who is also Platoon 4 leader and was
obviously sick went to the Camp clinic to collect
some drugs to combat his ailment and was
approaching the camp market to get food (since
food was no longer available in the camp kitchen)
in order to use his drugs when he was stopped
by security operatives (Nigerian Police force and
Man’O War) and was asked to go back into the
camp hall for lectures.
How NYSC Corp Member Almost Lost His Life To
Torture At Camp
He tried explaining to them that he was sick and
needed to take his drugs but they did not listen
to him, rather he was told to start ‘frog-
jumping’.Bunmi quietly explained to them that he
might not be able to ‘frog-jump’ because of his
health status.
The next thing I saw was that the security
operatives (who were obviously Hausas, because
they communicated fluently in Hausa language)
told asked him if he was Hausa or Yoruba. When
he told them he was Yoruba and he hails from
Lagos state, they seized his NYSC identification
tag and marched him straight to the ‘Guard room’
allegations of ‘being stubborn’ without giving him
any chance of speaking in his own defense.
This place called Guard room is a bathroom
located at the entrance gate of the Nasarawa
Camp where soldiers urinate at all time and with
no cross-ventilation.
We all watched them take the poor sick Corps
member to the Guard Room, and was detained
there going to three hours. The next thing I saw
was people from the camp medical unit running
towards the gate with stretcher in their hands.
Behold Bunmi had collapsed and fainted in the so-
called guard room.
Even while the Red Cross team was trying to
rescue the situation, the soldiers sent them back
saying that all was pretence and that when he
wakes up, he will return to the guard room.
The doctors battled for his life for about an hour
before Bunmi Adeyera became conscious again
and was later stabilized.
Every Corps member on Camp including NYSC
officials know Bunmi to be easy-going, obedient
and friend to all which is more reason he
emerged the leader of Platoon 4.
The population of those who went to the clinic to
check on him is one that I have never seen on
camp although they wouldn’t allow us take
pictures of this ugly incidence.
But my question is this why is it that we Corps
members who have in good faith and humility
come to serve our father land are being
maltreated even to the extent of someone
fainting. This should not continue. All these
security agents should be careful in performing
their duties and should remember that the pen is
powerful than the sword…”
Bunmi Adeyera is a graduate of mass
communication from The Nigerian Institute of
Journalism, Ogba, Lagos state. All attempts to
reach the Nasarawa state co-ordinator, Mrs. C.I
Uba, proved abortive.

Nigeria's Maiduguri under curfew after Boko Haram attack

Nigeria's military has imposed a curfew in the
main north-eastern city of Maiduguri after a
surprise attack by militant Islamist group Boko
Haram.
Streets are deserted with markets, schools and
hospitals shut in the densely populated city,
reports say.
The army said the lockdown was ordered to
protect lives and property.
Troops and vigilantes fought off the militants on
Tuesday evening as they tried to enter Maiduguri,
residents told the BBC.
This was their most serious attempt to enter the
city since the military declared in March that it
had recaptured all urban areas from Boko Haram,
says BBC Nigeria analyst Aliyu Tanko.
Boko Haram is linked to Islamic State, which is
fighting for a global caliphate.
Maiduguri, a city of about two million people, is
Boko Haram's former headquarters.
Pro-military vigilante leader Yusuf Sani told AFP
news agency that six of his men were killed and
12 others were wounded when three female
suicide bombers detonated their devices.
"The terrorists suffered serious casualties," he
added.
An army statement said the curfew would remain
in force for 24 hours and the "situation is firmly
under control".

Coup D’etat: General shuts down airport, bordersto prevent country's President from getting home

Following a military coup to overthrow Burundian
President, the general who launched the coup has
ordered that the country's airport and borders be
shutdown.
Godefroid Niyombare, a top Burundian general, led
a coup today, May 13, to overthrow the President
of Burundi, Pierre Nkurunziza , whose third term
re-election bid has thrown the country into chaos
– with citizens protesting the move.
Nkurunziza was attending a regional crisis
meeting in Tanzania while he was being unseated
in Burundi. He was said to be heading back home
hours after the coup took place when Niyombare
ordered the closure of the airport and borders to
prevent the President from flying into the country.
“I order the closure of the airport and border, and
I ask every citizen and law enforcement down to
the airport to protect it,” General Niyombare said
in a radio broadcast.
Tanzanian government spokesman Salva
Rweyemamu had told AFP that Nkurunziza left
the meeting to attend to the situation in Burundi.

Burundi,” he said.

Charity denies Ronaldo Nepal donation

Reports claimed the Real Madrid star had given a
large sum of money towards the earthquake relief
fund .The charity Save the Children has denied reports
that Cristiano Ronaldo has made a €7 million
donation towards the Nepal earthquake fund.
It had been claimed the 30-year-old had given the
sum to the organisation to help with the relief
effort in the country, with the seven representative
of the number he wears for Real Madrid.
A statement on the charity's website said: "The
global ambassador for Save the Children,
Cristiano Ronaldo, has used his voice to raise
awareness of the problems facing the most
vulnerable children in the world.
"But the latest information regarding an alleged
donation from Ronaldo to the emergency
response of Save the Children in Nepal is false."After the second earthquake, which has brought
further devastation to the country, the non-governmental organisation wants to thank Cristiano Ronaldo and other influential people for their support in publicising the situation children and families in Nepal are facing."An estimated 8,000 people were killed when a massive earthquake hit the country on April 25, before a second quake struck on May 12, killing 16 more people.

Ronaldo is a machine - Marcelo

Real Madrid left back
Marcelo has defended
Cristiano Ronaldo in the
aftermath of his side's
Champions League semi-
final exit at the hands of
Juventus, hailing him as a "machine".
After a 2-1 defeat in the first leg in Turin,
Ronaldo's penalty in Wednesday's return put
Madrid on course for the final, only for the club's
former striker Alvaro Morata to make it 3-2 on
aggregate.
But Marcelo was quick to try and raise spirits
after the game by leaping to the defence of his
team-mate and accusing critics of making unfair
comments.
"Cristiano has not had a dip in form," the defender
told Madrid's official website.
"You are used to seeing him score three or four
goals per game and when he scores one you say
his form has dipped.
"He is a machine, he works extremely hard and
helps the team. It is unfair to talk of a dip in
form."
Marcelo also stood in support of under-pressure
boss Carlo Ancelotti, whose future now appears
uncertain after failing to retain the Champions
League.
The result means the club's only remaining hope
of silverware is in La Liga - where they trail
leaders Barcelona by four points with two games
remaining.
"Madrid always fight for everything and this
season we are no longer going to be able to fight
for two titles," the Brazil defender continued.
"La Liga is very difficult but not impossible. We
are going to fight and try to win the last two
games and see what happens.
"The coach is a winner. This year we have not
been able to win two titles but I think that
Ancelotti will stay on because he is a great
coach."

It was hard not to celebrate 'bittersweet'Bernabeu goal, admits Morata

The Spanish striker found it tough to face his old
club on Wednesday but insists his decision not to
celebrate his strike was the right one.Juventus striker Alvaro Morata struggled to contain mixed emotions
after eliminating boyhood club Real Madrid in the semi-finals of the
Champions League. The 22-year-old opted to leave the SantiagoBernabeu side for the Serie A champions in July 2014 after failing to win over head coach Carlo Ancelotti, and has since reignited his career in
Turin.Madrid's decision to let go of Morata came back to haunt them in the Champions League, with the
attacker scoring in both Juventus' 2-1 home win as well as Wednesday's 1-1 draw in the return
which saw their title defence come to an end.
"This is exceptional. I was very emotional to
score a goal, but it was a bittersweet feeling,"
Morata told Canal+.
"It was quite hard not to celebrate the goal. It
was a weird feeling. But I would react the same
again a thousand times.
"It was hard to play against Madrid. I have to
thank the fans who have always supported me."
The striker went on to admit that Barcelona will
be tough opponents in next month's final but is
adamant there are no favourites in such a game.
"We have fought hard to make it to the final, but
it does not end here. We now want to win the
Champions League and make history.
"The match against Barcelona will be different
because they are a great team. But we must not
stop dreaming. They are not favourites when one
game decides it all. We are a great team as well."

Military Coup in Burundi as Army General Overthrows President Pierre

Following weeks of violent protests against the
president’s bid to stand for a third term – a top
Burundian general on Wednesday announced that
he has overthrown the administration of President
Pierre Nkurunziza who travelled to Tanzania for
EAC Summit. The radio broadcast by General
Godefroid Niyombare – came hours after
President Nkurunziza arrived in neighbouring
Tanzania for talks to end the crisis. However, it is
not clear how much support he and the other
officers have – as President Nkurunziza’s aides
have dismissed the coup claims as “a joke”.
Police fired tear gas and live ammunition on
protesters in the capital, Bujumbura, on
Wednesday.
The unrest began on 26 April and has led to the
deaths of more than 20 people.

The Shocking Confession Of A Widow Who Has Been Having Sex With Dead Husband For 4 Years .

A 30-year-old woman identified only as Marie has
narrated how her late husband who died four
years earlier has been having sex with her. In a
chilly narration, Marie who hails from from
Bulawyo, Zimbabwe, explained that her husband
died when she was 26 years old but has refused
to let her go following his constant demand for
sex from her physically.

“I have gone through enough of this spiritual
warfare. I’m a 30-year-old widow and my husband
died 4 years ago when I was 26 years old. We
had just gotten married when he died in a horrific
car accident and died on the spot.
That was five months after we had been married.
I got so emotional pain that I would mysteriously
see him every night. He would be crying whilst
looking at me and I thought I was dreaming.
Three months later, I felt like someone was
waking me up at night and I was shocked to see
him in my bedroom, sitting by side of the bed. I
wanted to scream but he held my mouth and said
he had come to help me since he had seen that I
was suffering a lot.
I asked him how that was possible when he was
dead and he said although we had buried him, his
spirit had not departed. He said he still wanted to
be with me for some time. He said he would look
after me but he warned me against telling people
about this development.
He said I should not tell even his own mother and
I agreed not to. Since then, we have been living
together as husband and wife with the ghost of
my dead husband. He would buy groceries, pay
rentals and all.
Then there is a church I visited early this year
and the pastor preached about not interacting
with the dead. So now I want to stop living with
this dead man but I don’t know how to go about
it.
I really loved my husband and even up to now, I
still love him dearly. He has never changed. He
still is exactly like he was before he died. But
what I have noticed is that he is not growing
older. He still is exactly as he was when he died
four years ago.
I don’t even have feelings for any other man. I
feel like I’m a married woman. Our sex life has
never changed. It’s still as it was before my
husband died. But now I’m scared that I’m living
with a corpse in the house. Maybe it’s because
I’m now going to church. I have also not stayed
with anyone in my house since my husband died.
I always live alone.
At church, our pastor was once attacked with the
demon of another man and the man of God
collapsed, then became conscious later on. It’s
evident that if I ask him to pray for my husband’s
spirit to go away, that would be way beyond his
powers.
I’m also afraid of telling my husband that I don’t
want to live him with anymore. How do I tell him
when he loves me so much? When visitors come
to my house during the day, my husband
mysteriously disappears and only returns when
they are gone.
I have never told anyone about this strange
encounter, this is my first time to open up about
it. One day he told me that his spirit would
depart when I breathe my last. So to him, as long
as I’m alive he wants to be with me.
Is there any pastor or Sangoma who can solve
this spiritual problem? I have been to well known
local prophets, but they all failed to detect my
dead husband’s spirit.
I wanted to come across a prophet who would
first detect that I’m living with a dead man before
I could narrate my ordeal to him. I am now born
again and I now want to live a normal life. Please
help me win this spiritual warfare.”

NIGERIA'S GDP DOWN TO 3.86, INFLATION UP TO 8.7% IN FIRST QUARTER

Coordinating Minister for Economy and Minister
of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala
Nigeria's real Gross Domestic Product (GDP)
growth rate declined to 3.86 per cent in the first
quarter of the year (Q1 2015) compared to 5.94
percent the previous quarter.
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) which measures
inflation also rose to 8.7 per cent in April
compared to 8.5 percent in March.
These figures are contained in the first quarter
report released Wednesday by the National
Bureau of Statistics.
According to the report, Nigeria's GDP growth
rate was decelerated by 2.25 percent points
from the preceding quarter and by 1.98 per cent
from the corresponding quarter of 2014.
Quarter on quarter, real GDP was lower by 11.57
per cent.
NBS figures also showed that nominal GDP in Q1
2015 was estimated at N21.04 trillion compared
to N24.20 trillion in Q4 as well as N20.16 trillion
in the corresponding quarter of 2014.
According to the bureau, relative to the
preceding quarter value of N24.20 trillion,
nominal growth was lower by 13.07 per cent.
These growth indices reflect the depressed
global oil prices, which prevailed at the period.
Oilproduction stood at 2.18 million barrels per
day (mbpd) in Q1 of 2015, remaining at the same
level as it was in the preceding quarter, and
0.08mbpd lower than the 2.24mbpd recorded in
Q1 of 2014.
It said oil sector contribution to GDP was
negative at -8.15ercent, representing further
decline of 1.55 percent from -6.60 per cent in Q1
2014.
“Nonetheless, quarter on quarter growth remained
positive, at 3.08 per cent As a share of the
economy, the Oil sector repre- sented 10.45 per
cent of total real GDP, down 1.38 per cent points
from the 11.83% recorded a year earlier, yet up
1.49 per cent from the 8.97 per cent recorded in
Q4 of 2014,” it added.
However, it stated that growth in the non-oil
sector was largely driven by the activities of
trade, crop production, other services,
construction and telecommunications.
The non-oil sector grew by 5.59 percent in real
terms in Q1 2015, representing a decline of 2.62
per cent when compared to the 8.21 per cent
recorded the previous year as well as a decline of
0.85 per cent from the value of 6.44 percent
recorded the preceding quarter.
Meanwhile, the NBS attributed the 0.2 per cent
increase in headline index to faster pace of
increases in the food and core sub- indices.
according to the NBS, core inflation increased at
a faster pace for the fourth consecutive month.
Prices rose by 7.7 percent (year-on-year), up by
0.2 percentage points from 7.5 percent in March
with the strongest increases recorded in the
Clothing and Footwear, Furnishings and
Household Equipment Maintenance; and
Restaurants and Hotels Divisions.
“On a month-on-month basis, the highest price
increases were recorded in the potatoes, yam and
other tubers, oils and fats and bread and cereal
groups. The average annual rate of change of the
food sub-index for the twelve-month period
ending in April 2015 over the previous twelve
month average was 9.5 percent. The twelve
month rate of change has held steady for eleven
consecutive months,” it said.

Dangote’s refinery to run on UOP technology

UOP LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Honeywell
International Incorporated, on Wednesday said its
process technology, catalysts and proprietary
equipment would form the basis for Dangote’s
refinery, the largest refinery in Africa that is
targeted at reducing Nigeria’s dependence on
imported fuels and petrochemicals.
Africa’s richest man and President, Dangote
Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, had in March
announced that his oil refinery would process
650,000 barrels per day of crude, up from the
450,000bpd initially planned.
The completion of the plant, expected to come on
stream in 2017, will see Nigeria having the largest
refinery in Africa.
Dangote Oil Refining Company selected UOP
technology for a world-scale integrated refinery
and petrochemical plant to be built in Lekki,
Lagos, said Honeywell in a statement on its
website.
Nigeria, Africa’s top oil producer with the second
largest amount of proven oil reserves on the
continent, currently imports most of its refined
product requirements due to lack of domestic
refining capacity.
The Senior Vice President and General Manager,
UOP’s Process, Technology and Equipment
business, Pete Piotrowski, was quoted as saying,
“UOP has been designing state-of-the-art
refineries and petrochemical plants for more than
a century; so, we are well-equipped to help
Nigeria develop a massive new installation to
meet its domestic needs.
“This project will enable Dangote to improve
Nigeria’s oil refining capabilities, reduce the
country’s dependence on imports, and work to
revive and transform the Nigerian economy.”

SANUSI INSISTS $12.5B WAS STOLEN IN NNPC UNDER JONATHAN'S ADMINISTRATION

Muhammad Sanusi II, Emir of Kano and former
Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor,
yesterday insisted that some $12.5billion oil
money was diverted under President Goodluck
Jonathan's administration.
Sanusi, who started the row over the “missing” $
20 billion oil money was reacting to the auditors'
report on the Nigerian National Petroleum
Corporation's (NNPC's) books.
In an article titled “Unanswered questions on
Nigeria's missing oil revenue billions”, in the
“Financial Times”, he insisted that the PwC Audit
Report confirmed that about $18.5billion of the
NNPC's earnings was not remitted to the
treasury, contrary to what the Petroleum Minister
Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, claimed is the
case.
Sanusi wrote: “Contrary to the claims of
Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke, the
audit report does not exonerate the NNPC. It
establishes that the gap between the company's
oil revenues between January 2012 and July
2013 and cash remitted to the government for
the same period was $18.5bilion.”
Sanusi said the breakdown of the NNPC's
account of how it used that money, raises
serious questions about the legality of the
conduct of the state's oil company.
He said the only thing that is left to be done is
for the authority to hold anyone found culpable in
these transactions accountable and commence
legal proceedings against them since, in his
words, “Nigerians did not vote for an amnesty for
anyone”.
Sanusi said: “The lines of investigation suggested
by this audit need to be pursued. Any officials
found responsible for involvement in this
apparent breach of trust must be charged.”
Giving details of what he described as a “scam
that violated the constitution” and which he
alleged resulted in the siphoning of money from
the treasury,” and by extension, his suspension
as CBN governor, Sanusi said the perpetrators of
the exercise relied on the supposed kerosene
subsidy purportedly granted by the late President
Umaru Yar'Adua.

Anger as Philippines factory fire death toll hits 45

Forty-five people have died in a huge blaze at a
footwear factory in the Philippine capital and 26
others remain missing, authorities said on
Thursday, as grieving relatives described
sweatshop conditions and poor fire safety
standards.
Rescue workers pulled dozens of corpses out of
the ruins of the two-storey building in Manila,
many of whom were believed to have been
trapped on the second floor after the blaze broke
out just after noon on Wednesday.
“Many of those retrieved were reduced to skulls
and bones,” national police chief Leonardo Espina
said during an emotional press conference, as city
authorities confirmed that 45 bodies had so far
been found.
“Someone will definitely be charged because of
the deaths. It doesn’t matter if it’s an accident,
people died. Right now, we are investigating to
clearly define what happened. For sure, someone
will be charged.”
Sparks from welding equipment used to repair a
broken gate are believed to have caused the fire
when they ignited flammable chemicals stored
nearby.
The building, among a long row of factories in the
rundown district of Valenzuela on the northern
edge of the Philippine capital, made cheap
slippers and sandals for the local market.
The footwear had names such as “Havana” that
sound like well-known global brands, company
employees said.
– No safety standards –
The factory workers toiled for as little as 300
pesos (US$6.70) a day routinely surrounded by
foul-smelling chemicals and were not aware of
fire safety standards, survivors and relatives said.
“The families can’t help but be angry about what
happened. We will never forget this,” Rodrigo
Nabor, whose two sisters were inside the factory
and remain unaccounted for, told AFP.
Nabor was among relatives of factory workers
waiting for body bags at a village hall that had
been converted into a makeshift morgue.
“I’ve lost hope that they survived,” said Nabor, 31,
who works at a nearby plywood factory.
“I can’t explain how I’m feeling. I didn’t sleep at
all last night. I just kept walking around the
factory hoping for news.”
Nabor said his sisters, Bernardita Logronio, 32,
and Jennylyn Nabor, 26, often complained of foul-
smelling chemicals in their workplace.
“They said they keep an electric fan on to drive
some of the smell away,” he said.
Nabor said their pay depended on how many
sandals they finished, which could be as little as
300 pesos a day. Nabor’s sisters each had a
young child.
One survivor, Janet Victoriano, signalled lax fire
safety standards may have contributed to the
high death toll.
“I had never been involved in a fire drill ever,”
Victoriano, who had worked at the factory for five
years, told DZMM radio.
Victoriano said she was able to escape because
she was near the front door when the blaze
started.
“The building was totally damaged, the roofs
caved in and portions of the second floor
collapsed,” the city’s fire marshal, Senior
Superintendent Rico Kwantiu, told AFP.
Valenzuela mayor Rex Gatchalian told reporters
that rescue workers would continue scouring the
building on Thursday for the 26 people still
missing, while also checking to see whether they
had escaped.
“The city government is still praying and hoping
some of them must have gotten out,” Gatchalian
said.
Deadly fires regularly rip through the poor shanty
areas of the Philippine capital, where there are
virtually no fire safety standards.
In the deadliest fire in Manila in recent times, 162
people were killed in a huge blaze that gutted a
Manila disco in 1996.
